How to clean your rain gauge

1. Loosen the rain tract

Take a hold of the rain tract and pull it upwards until it dislodges from the weather station.

2. Dismount the tipping spoon

On the side of the box the rain tract was mounted on, there is a small brass screw holding the tipping spoon in place. Unscrew it to release the tipping spoon, so that you have better access to clean it.

3. Remove the bottom of the box

You can poke out the bottom of the box by applying pressure from the top with the screwdriver you used to unscrew the tipping spoon.

4. Clean the tipping spoon, the hinges, the rain tract, and the bottom.

Remove any dirt or foreign objects from the different components by wiping them off with a wet cloth or by scrubbing them.

5. Reassemble the weather station

Attach the bottom of the box of the rain tract by pushing it back into place. Then screw the tipping spoon back in place, make sure that it still tips after you've mounted it. Finally, place the rain tract on top of the box and make sure it's firmly lodged in place.
